Info
GrimGrimoire is a strategy game released back in 2007, and a remastered version just came out in July. The original game’s music was written by five composers at Basiscape: Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata, Mitsuhiro Kaneda, Kimihiro Abe, and Noriyuki Kamikura. The remaster directly reuses all of their music and also has seven new tracks written by Kaneda, Yoshimi Kudo, Rikako Watanabe, and Yukinori Kikuchi.
Both the original soundtrack and the new remake tracks are pretty standard Basiscape fantasy orchestral fare that you’ll be right at home with if you enjoy their other works like Final Fantasy Tactics A2 or Odin Sphere. And I’m 100% among those people! Always a pleasure to listen to a Basiscape video game original soundtrack.
Recommended tracks:
-
“BOOK OF DAYS” (Kaneda) is beautifully and richly layered
-
“Battle” (Abe) starts off understated, but introduces some cool dissonance at 0:26 and then goes full Abe at 1:12 with big transposition abuse
-
“Valiant Challenger” (Watanabe) has little an accordion, as a treat
-
“Banquet for the Heroes” (Kudo) has a bunch of signature Kudo chord flurries that electrify every atom in my body
