Info

Tadahiro Nitta is an old school game composer who worked for the developer MICROCABIN in the late ’80s until the mid-2000s, after which he kind of disappeared from composition and started performing as a multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, trombone, and miscellaneous Japanese instruments) under the name Mikan Nitta. In 2020, he randomly showed up again to drop an arrange album of some of his early PC compositions, CLOAD, and in 2021 he released possibly the best chiptune album of the year, CALL VOICE, a masterwork made with OPLL and PSG audio recorded from an MSX2+. He’s released a little more music since then which has also been very good, and now here’s a new game soundtrack!

Unlike his other recent music, this soundtrack is full production, though a couple of songs do have some chiptune elements. The game is a horror visual novel, so there are some spooky sound design tracks of the sort that I always enjoy. A big part of the appeal of his recent music to me is the technical showboating in his chiptune tracks, which isn’t present here because it’s not a chiptune soundtrack, but that’s not the only thing I like about him as a composer so there are other things here to appreciate too. Hoping he gets more game work in the future!

Recommended tracks:

  • everyday” is a pleasant li’l jazz number

  • crisis” has big loud noises
