Info

So here’s a mobile gacha RPG where you fight RPG battles with a harem of anthropomorphic train girls or something. Video games! The music was done by Basiscape, one of my favorite sound teams in the entire world, and unsurprisingly I think this soundtrack is good as hell. It’s a bit reminiscent of the music they wrote for the mobile MMORPG CARAVAN STORIES in terms of the instrumentation and fantasy style, particularly like volume 6. Strings and winds (with occasional fuller orchestra pieces), piano, mallet and miscellaneous percussion, and miscellaneous electronics/synthetics with that unmistakable Basiscape compositional flavor. Always a pleasure to listen to a Basiscape video game original soundtrack.

There have been two soundtracks published for this game, one by Basiscape (which is the one I listened to) and a second volume by the game’s developer (which I have not listened to). This first volume used to be available digitally on iTunes, but for some reason it was removed. Don’t know why! Other Basiscape releases are still very much available, but just not this one any more.

Recommended tracks:

  • Living with Mist” (Kudo) is serene, with plenty of mallet percussion and a nice transposing section in the second half

  • Tokutethu-Tai Combat Mission!” (Kudo) is pretty standard Kudo prog

  • Jack Crash” (Watanabe) is some fun, jaunty jazz with accordion in it

  • Tokutethu-Tai Emergency Combat Mission!” (Kaneda) has some super dramatic orchestra and piano happening on top of breakbeats, and the chord changes are kind of out of control so you don’t forget you’re listening to a piece by Mitsuhiro Kaneda

  • Mist Song” (Kudo, vo. 川崎日菜子) is the game’s theme song and hits those “fantasy synth pop” notes pretty hard
