Listening: soundtrack release
Info
Well it’s been two weeks, which is apparently the interval at which I’m listening to Hajime Sugie soundtracks, so here’s the next one. This time we’ve got void tRrLM();, a dungeon crawler roguelike where you play as a robot, which I guess is why the game and song titles are styled like C++ code. This one does have some of the piano and strings again like A Rose in the Twilight, but unlike the first two soundtracks I listened to, this one is a lot less moody, IDM-inflected ambient and a lot more energetic, EDM-inflected ambient. It’s good! I didn’t like it quite as much as htoL#NiQ but his musical style of moody, warm synth layers and nice chord changes lends itself completely well to this kind of music too.
I’m starting to think I might like this Hajime Sugie guy a lot.
Recommended tracks:
-
“tRrLM.Initialize();” goes for a kind of standard “spacey menu/briefing screen” vibe that I always appreciate
-
“float FetchGrowthRatio();” has the funkiest bass writing I’ve heard Sugie drop so far, makes the track sound like VN music
-
“Materials[]” mixes some dirty percussion and buzzy stuttering with some prettier sounds getting filtered in and out of existence
-
“You.MoveForward(1);” is one of the most straightforwardly dancefloor tracks in the game
-
“return Torico;” is similar to some of the ambient tracks from previous games, but with more EDM-y production in line with the rest of this game
