Info
So I just found out that Palworld has had a few content updates since initial release that have added some music to the game, and the developer has been adding them to the soundtrack that’s available on Steam at around the same time the patches drop. I considered doing separate posts for each update, but that felt too much to me like juicing the post numbers here, so we’ll instead just do a batch post. The three updates with new music and their corresponding tracks are:
- Version 0.2.0.6 (first raid boss), 2024-04-04: track 18
- Version 0.3.1 (Sakurajima), 2024-06-27: tracks 19~24
- Version 0.4.11 (Feybreak), 2024-12-23: tracks 25~28
The new music in all of these updates is mostly in the same style as the music in the base game, which I covered here right after the game came out: chaotic, proggy orchestral mixed sometimes with electronics and rock guitar + drums. This means I enjoyed the update music quite bit too! Palworld continues to be the post-Gust project that apparently lets Tatsuya Yano write music that’s most similar to the jazz/prog nonsense I like most in his Gust works. Like the base game, there doesn’t appear to be any area music here, with all of the tracks either being heavy battle music or event/cutscene/trailer themes which can vary a bit more in tone.
The two named updates do have some individual flavor in a few tracks to set them apart a little from the base game’s music. The Sakurajima update incorporates Japanese instruments and/or chiptune into half of the tracks, the first one obviously makes sense given the name but the second took me a little by surprise. The Feybreak update has a couple of tracks that tend a bit more toward classical orchestral styles, and the other two feature drums that are more prominently electronic than most of the rest of the soundtrack gets.
Recommended tracks:
-
“Chaos Unleashed” is changing rhythm constantly, my favorite part of that probably being the short irregular bit at 1:50
-
“Pals In Full Bloom” was the trailer theme for the Sakurajima update, so it makes sense it’s the track with both the Japanese instruments and the chiptune in it
-
“Discomfort From Abyss” is another one for the list of VGM tracks that sound like they’re inspired by The Rite of Spring
