New Morusque game! Well it was new six months ago anyway. This is a pixelly Metroidvania with a focus on particle physics, particularly Feynman diagrams, which is not an area super commonly explored by video games. It’s the first game by French studio SciFunGames, which was founded by an actual particle physicist, so with that background the game makes a lot of sense.

In contrast with Stray, this soundtrack is more on the chiptune/tracker side of things, a bit cuter & melodic and less ambient though still pretty atmospheric a lot of the time. It’s pretty reminiscent in terms of texture and quirkiness of some of his older scores for Nifflas games and Blocks That Matter, though with cleaner electronic production and sound design more on par with Stray. Feels like a natural evolution of the style, and it’s a really good combo!

Recommended tracks:

  • Cathode Rays” is in 5/4 with some syncopation here and there to keep things bumpy, the spiciest of which happens in the 2:00 section when the accompanying keyboard figure skips an eighth at 2:10 and makes it up at the end of the passage

  • Searching the Source” starts off with some real drippy, bent sounds, but shoutouts to extensively using the THX sound from 2:18 on

  • Gelma’s Prayer” begins with a medieval folky intro that belies just how funky the track will shortly get

  • In the Absurd World” is a bit techno-y

  • Finding Shgig” has some of the most old-school tracker vibes in its instrumentation and composition
