It’s been a year, so it’s time for another GameFAQs VGM popularity contest! Like last year, I’ll just post some occasional (not necessarily daily) updates of tracks that catch my attention for one reason or another as I go through all the nominations.
Bubsy: Paws on Fire! – Howlraiser (Virgil)
Composed by Stemage
I listened to this for ten seconds and was like “why does the new game in the much-mocked old series no one has legitimate nostalgia for have insane music,” and then I checked the composer and it was Stemage, a metal artist, and I was like “okay fair.”
DOS – Closure
Composed by Steve Pardo
Fun 5/8 synthetic jazz track by a composer I’ve never heard before from a combination music album and video game I’ve never heard of before.
IRREGULAR NATION IV – Obtain An Unused Whale In The Abstract Sea
Composed by Kobaryo
This isn’t originally a game track, though a shortened version of it was later added to WACCA Reverse. Unfortunately, the shortening cuts off stuff from the beginning of the track, which is my favorite part; really nice minimalist stuff.
Storm Assault – Stage 2
Composed by 液
Really cool prog track from a random Gradius-inspired fan game. There’s no existing records of this composer existing anywhere on the internet besides in the credits of this one game; it’s possible they answered a social media request for music without having a website or anything and then vanished back into the ether afterward.
