Just played a tiny little jam game from three years ago with two pieces of music in it, the intro/ending theme and then the main game BGM, and I liked the main game BGM a little bit, so I’m making the extremely great life decision to hastily slap together another post in 6.5 minutes right before I go to bed.
Zolf was written for LOWREZJAM 2022, a jam where the restriction is games have to have a resolution of 64×64 or less, so obviously we’re dealing with some extremely chunky pixels here. Each of the two themes in the game include a chippy lead at one point but otherwise the music is lo-fi but not really chiptune, with the main theme “Otherworldly Chill” hitting that spacey sound with a theremin-y lead playing the melody above some pitch-bendy chords.
It’s a pleasant song! Not the most harmonically complex thing in the world, but the big bends on the chords are a nice way to spice up the way they feel. The combined audio texture at 1:39 when all the layers come together—chiptune, outer space, acoustic double bass, and processed mechanical percussion—is nice too. It’s just a nice piece of music. Okay, good night!!!
