2025 VGM Summer Report Card

← 2024 Part 2

Well I suppose I should stop getting distracted by getting my ass kicked in Monster Hunter Wilds and post some game music from 2025 that I’ve enjoyed a lot. The unofficial theme for this semester is repeating figures, because why would I ever listen to a piece without a repeating figure in it? Simply preposterous, I’ve never done it and will never do it.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land – “Marching in Fog”

Composed by Kazuki Yanagawa

A dizzying collage of sounds of rhythms lost in a formless haze

DELTARUNE Chapter 4 – “The Third Sanctuary”

Composed by Toby Fox

I mean, there was no way I wasn’t going to post the track with the cool synth riff and multiple time signatures in it, right, I am nothing if not predictable. I like the triplet-ish drum change at 1:47 and big bends too.

Hikoban – “Pull Yourself Together”

Composed by xXChickyChuXx

I strongly encourage all composers out there to continue writing pieces of music in the “Splatoon 3 singleplayer map theme” genre

Monster Hunter Wilds – “Sild, the Keepers’ Vigil (Day)” (unofficial title)

Lead Composer: Miwako Chinone
Composers: Mana Ogura, Yuna Hiranuma, Marika Suzuki, Yuko Komiyama, Tadayoshi Makino, Sascha Knorr, Brian D’Oliveira
Orchestrator & Arranger: Sascha Knorr
Additional Arranger: Christopher LaRosa

Beautiful strings and wind writing crossed with polymetric chimes, electronic production, and more. I think this is the piece that’s stunned me the most so far this year. The soundtrack album is coming out at the end of this month, so we’ll hopefully know who wrote this soon!

WARRIORS: Abyss – “Bite the Bullet”

Music Composers: Takashi Yoshida (suspected), Mio Yamada

Yeah, I’m a sucker for the stacked-staccato-figures thing every time, sue me. Though my favorite part is actually the real syncopated bit at 0:47 with the Breath of the Wild Lost Woods piano in the background.
