Info
Game #2 has a Junko Shiratsu solo music credit! For whatever reason this one only has about 75% as much music as the first game, though maybe some reprised music from the game is in there too and just not included in the sound test. The soundtrack is pretty much the same kinds of jazz fusiony styles that Shiratsu deployed on the first game and would deploy on the next game for the Dreamcast, so it has a bit less of that statelier, old sports documentary feel that Saori Kobayashi brought to the first game, but it’s still very much in that vein of ’90s jazzy sports game music.
I did like the writing here a bit more than the jazz fusion tracks from the first game, harmonically things are consistently a bit spicier and there’s more egregious soloing. And who doesn’t love egregious soloing? We all love egregious soloing. Pretty good! I’m glad I decided to not take SEGA’s word for it and actually check if these games had more music, because this one has some really nice unreleased tunes.
Recommended tracks:
-
“Chase” is the opening theme and one of two tracks featuring some live instrument performances; it definitely sets the tone for egregious soloing
-
“Danger Zone” hits you with a nice dose of syncopation
-
“Data Room” is one of the lower-key tracks, it drops some feel-good chords in the final section
-
“Management Theme 1” has a bit of an Ace Attorney trial opening feel to it, but funkier
-
“Management Theme 2” closes us out with some more egregious soloing, this time in piano form
(the final three tracks have unofficial titles)
