Hi, I’m CHz and this is my music log! When I listen to something I’ll post about it here, usually with a bit of background, a mini-review, and links to a few tracks to give an impression of what it sounds like. Sometimes if I feel like it I’ll include a little stylistic/compositional analysis or some biographical information about one or more of the composers.

Most of what I listen to are video game soundtracks from all eras, though you’ll also find soundtracks of other software, media, or artistic performances, original music from game composers or other folks adjacent to that space, and also just random other stuff. But mostly video game music!

I have some fairly clear biases toward prog, jazz fusion, IDM, ambient music, and anything you can describe as “weird shit,” but the things in music that resonate with me the most tend not to be tied to genre but are rather more granular things that can appear in any genre if you look hard enough, like specific rhythmic/harmonic choices or synthy/unusual sound design, so I’ll listen to anything if it catches my interest in some way.

The site icon is a (somewhat misleading) screenshot of the character April from Planet Laika, one of my favorite games and one of my favorite soundtracks, and one of the first things I covered on this blog back in 2022.
