Info
The second volume focuses on music added in the Retem update in late 2021. Retem is a desert region, so if your immediate assumption was “well that means the music uses Middle Eastern instruments,” then congratulations: you’ve played a video game before!
This volume is a bit more redundant than the first, in the sense that it has less “unique music” and more variations/arrangements of other tracks appearing elsewhere on this album or on volume 1, but there’s still quite a bit of extremely cool and great music here.
Recommended tracks:
-
“Retem City – Daybreak View” (Horita) is a cute EP- and vibraphone-lead jazz track
-
“Song of Mourning ~The beginning wind~” (Horita, vo. Azusa Tadokoro) is kind of a restrained piece for Horita, which makes all of the emotional chord changes really impactful when they happen
-
“North Retem – Night – Scenery” (Fukuyama) is Fukuyama’s turn to write one of these very pretty, ambient synth texture environmental tracks with cool chords
-
“Retem Atmosphere – Night – Battle” (Fukuyama) is Fukuyama’s turn to write one of these action dance music battle themes, which he couldn’t resist the urge to throw some jazz piano into
-
“Song of War ~Against fate~ – Anniversary” (Fukuyama, vo. Azusa Tadokoro) is the dance music remix of Fukuyama’s swing jazz song for the character Nadereh; I like the hybrid sound combination here more than the original pure jazz track
