Here’s a compilation album of western and eastern artists writing “PURE MIDI” music, which is a term that the organizer Tobokegao made up to describe music recorded from a MIDI sound module with little or no editing/effects/etc. afterward. There’s otherwise not a unified style of music besides “digital fusion” broadly, the artists just made whatever kind of tracks they wanted with the given constraint.
I’m not familiar with a large majority of the artists here, but it gave me a few to check out! Bunch of cool tracks, though predictably my favorites were by people I already know I love.
Recommended tracks:
-
“Cicada Ruin” (Cryptovolans) makes some cool cicada noises with MIDI instruments
-
“snowedit” (METAROOM) uses five-bar phrasing to great effect to give the track a suspended feel
-
“Hollowing-out?” (Zero Shinhou) is a chaotic song using the UTAU voice Teto Kasane
-
“Nibiru” (zenkusa) is a nice, jaunty trip to the apocalypse
