Info

One more set of system music for the road, after the closure of the 3DS and Wii U eShops! The Nintendo 3DS was launched in 2010, and in 2014 a major system update (9.0.0) added HOME Menu themes, which changed the background art, sound effects, and music of the 3DS main menu. A bunch of themes just reused music from various video games, but some of them had original pieces of music composed for them, and they’re quite nice! They’re a bit more on the active side of Nintendo UI cutejazz, like you’d hear in the eShop as opposed to what you’d hear in the settings menu.

We’ll naturally never have composer credits for any of these, but the Theme Shop had a dedicated space to list the background music used in the theme, so we actually do have official titles for all of these songs.

Recommended tracks:

  • Elegance,” exclusive to the “Hanafuda” theme, is some Japanese-flavored jazz fusion

  • Famicon Time,” exclusive to the “Famicom Memories” theme, is a quirky chiptune with a strongly stumbling 3-3-3-3-2-2 rhythm, very reminiscent in style to NES Remix music

  • Summer Time”, used in a few geometric pattern themes, is a sugar bomb, very eShop
