Info
Well the folks behind the Life Is Strange games just released a new visual novel that’s about fighting a corporation and/or wrangling godlike beings to determine the future of humanity or something. I’d never heard of this game before it came out and only then because of who did the music so I don’t actually know anything about it. The composer’s Lena Raine, though, she’s pretty cool! You know her from the Celeste video game about the trans mountain.
The music’s generally pretty lowkey and chill, with elements of ambient, lo-fi, mystery, somberness, darkness, and light. It’s a very synthy soundtrack and Raine’s audio design was a standout to me; I feel like it gets better with every soundtrack she does and this one is chock full of nice noises. Come for the sounds and the chords, stay for the atmosphere and the feelings.
Recommended tracks:
-
“[UNBREAKABLE BOND]” starts off with a really cool, blatty synth and has a very Celeste-esque melody at 0:29
-
“please hold” is a funny li’l chiptuney thing
-
“[CHAOS REIGNS]” has the quartal movement and time signature changes I crave—nay, require
-
“Egregore” is tense but pretty
-
“Stillness” has a lot of polymetric-feeling delays on instruments, giving it a subtle richness
