News: The Pokémon Company is finally releasing game soundtracks again

Album covers for soundtracks for Pokémon Sword & Shield, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Pokémon Company used to be really good about releasing main series game soundtracks in partnership with music label OVERLAP, not just on CD but with international digital distribution as well, but after Let’s Go in late 2018 they mysteriously stopped releasing anything that wasn’t anime-related. Possibly this corresponded with a weird medical thing that happened across the planet starting in late 2019?

Well they’re coming back in 2024, and they’re catching up where they left off with soundtracks for Sword & Shield (with DLC), Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet & Violet (with DLC). I’m especially excited for Arceus, which is in contention for my favorite game soundtrack of last year. Really really great fusion of GAME FREAK jazz fusion with like Ōkami traditional Japanese sound, Breath of the Wild ambient, and cool sound design all at the same time.

As well as finally finding out who in the hell wrote this (Minako Adachi?? Uncredited Hitomi Sato???)
