So for my own amusement, for [checks analytics] 10(?!) years I’ve been very lazily keeping a YouTube playlist of video game songs with telephone noises in them, stuff like:
- ringing
- dial tones
- DTMF beeps
- operator messages
- dialup modem sounds
I’m not being overly formal with it: there are some songs that definitely don’t have sampled telephone noises in them but synths manipulated in very similar ways (including one Game Boy track!?) and at least one track in there wasn’t actually originally written for a video game, but that’s fine. Sometimes the telephone sound is distorted beyond recognizability, like a MIDI track using instrument 125 (Telephone Ring) in a real crunched way, which is also fine.
Anyway, I just added the 100th song to the playlist, which felt like a milestone to post about. I’ve accepted suggestions from several people but biggest thanks especially to cako and Chimeratio for contributing a bunch of music for it.
Incidentally, this was the 100th song lmao
