Info

This is a tactical combat game featuring little tiny baby Gundam mechs; there are a bunch of these… probably more than you think there are. Including one on the Virtual Boy! This was the third and final game developed by LOCOMOTIVE for the VB, so our friends Takashi Kumegawa and Akiko Hida are back, though this time it’s unclear which of them is the composer, or if both are!

There’s absolutely no rip of this in any form whatsoever, so the only way to listen to this is to check a longplay or load up the game yourself, and so it figures that I think this is the best of the three LOCOMOTIVE soundtracks. Completely out of context I think I’d guess it was just a standard JRPG soundtrack, because I think a lot of the music would fit battles or towns pretty well. I still don’t like it altogether that much, but I think this one occasionally gets more harmonically interesting than the other two at least, so it’s got that going for it.

By my accounting, this game’s soundtrack contains six mission themes spread across the game’s eight missions (used in order 1-2-3-1-2-4-5-6), two combat themes, a credits theme, and then of course miscellaneous jingles, with some of the mission themes also being used in cutscenes and one combat theme also being used on the title screen.

Recommended tracks:

  • Title / Combat 1” is a rock-ish battle theme with a cool bit at 0:46 in the linked video

  • Missions 1 & 4” sounds like an earlygame JRPG overworld theme

  • Mission 8” is slow, slightly weird dance music in 3/4

(track titles are unofficial)
