Info
The second volume is the only one with pieces by all seven contributors to OMEGA, which is largely because Mits-hide seemingly only wrote a single track during the entire length of the project and it’s on this album. But this volume also sees the first tracks of the other composer who wasn’t present on Vol.1: Yoshiki Ara (ARA), the guy who seems to have publicly released about fifty times as much music as everyone else put together. His music got by far the jazziest that anyone’s jazzed so far across the first two albums, so that’s a new aspect on this volume.
The other major difference between this and Vol.1 is that there are more slow, atmospheric tracks, some of which are honestly pretty nice. Other than that it’s pretty similar to the first volume in terms of instrumentation and styles, though I think it’s slightly more compositionally interesting and slightly more to my taste tonally, so I enjoyed it a little more overall. Koichi Kyuma only had two tracks here, but they’re both kinda fucked up, so that’s nice. Once again, my favorite other contributor was Munegon, who did a couple atmospheric pieces and a proggy battle track that I enjoyed.
Recommended tracks:
-
“Place of Myth” (Ikki) was one of the most serious orchestral tracks on this volume
-
“Love for the Wicked” (Ara) is a real cheesy normal battle type theme
-
“A Night Scented With Tea Olive” (mi-do) is a pretty piece for winds only
-
“An Auspicious Unexplored Region” (Fuwaw) fucks around with the rhythm of the chime riff at the end of the loop at 1:37
-
“Rafflesia” (Mits-hide) was my favorite track on the album, a real weird jungle theme
-
“Super Ruins” (Kyuma) sounds like it’d be more at home in an action RPG or sidescroller
-
“Catastroph” (Munegon) is your legally obligated prog battle theme inclusion
(some titles are unofficial translations by me)
