So the sequel that just came out! This soundtrack overall has a similar hybrid orchestra/electronic/rock/metal style, so pretty much any track here would’ve easily fit into the soundtrack of the first game; in fact, it’s even slightly more focused on that style, in that there are less tracks in random other styles like oldies rock. The main stylistic difference is that it’s significantly more electronic than its predecessor; not only are there more tracks that are in your face with electronic production, but there are also more primarily orchestral or metal tracks that include some synths or whatever in there. Broadly, the pieces that I liked from the first game tended to be more electronic, so I’m not opposed to this change, though beyond that I didn’t feel like it was particularly more interesting than the first game’s soundtrack. It’s more alright epic action music with an occasionally good chord or wonky electronic noise that I think sounds cool.

It’s a little harder to pick standout composers this time around because there are even more composers, a whopping fourteen for some reason, so the workload is even more spread out and picking a favorite is essentially just saying “well, this person wrote two tracks and I thought both were pretty decent.” My representatives from the Two Tracks That Are Pretty Decent Crew are some newish hires who’ve only been there about five years or so: Sho Okada, who did a couple of dirty electronic tracks, and Qing Yan (often credited under the Sino-Japanese pronunciation of her name, Ao Tsubame), who did a couple of nice orchestral tracks.

Recommended tracks:

  • Mutation” (Hiroki Hashimoto) is one of the more dark ambient tracks, as far as the soundtrack gets dark ambient (which isn’t very)

  • Engage” (Shogo Nomura) is some thrashy electro metal with some funny Shogo Nomura jazzy chord changes thrown in there

  • Deviant” (Sho Okada) is some thrashy electro metal with some funny rave music noises thrown in there

  • Emergency” (Qing Yan) is the creepier of Yan’s two orchestra tracks and so obviously the one I liked more

  • Yaiba” (Syuri Misaki) sounds like the composer really wants to arrange “Big Blue” from F-Zero from 2:15 to 2:36

  • Remember Our Vow” (Nobuyoshi Kobayashi) has a pretty cool random jazz break out of nowhere at 1:48

  • The Garden” (Yoshinori Hirai) was my favorite of the calmer, non-thrashy rock pieces
