Apologies for the silence here for more than a month now jeez, nothing bad or important has been going on really I’ve just been doing a horrendous job lately of responsibly managing my time. Most recently that has involved playing what some might characterize as a wholly unnecessary amount of Splatoon Raiders.
Please note that I’m not promising that the current situation will change any time soon, I’m just explaining in case someone was worried. There is a bunch of stuff I do want to write about though: besides new game releases, Shadow Labyrinth got a bigger standalone soundtrack release with credits, there’s the year halfway point 2026 VGM pick list, the GameFAQs best VGM contest is nearly upon us, etc. But instead of all that, here’s a quick post because Hidekuni Horita just wrote a song for the latest version of SEGA’s rhythm game maimai, maimai DX CIRCLE PLUS:
I’m not super familiar with maimai’s systems so please forgive me if this is incorrect, but my understanding is that the series has an unlock system called “areas” where you choose one of several available courses and then by playing songs you move a distance along that course based on how well you play, unlocking songs and characters as you proceed. Sometimes these courses have “TASK tracks,” which you have to clear in order to keep making progress. So “SERAPHIC SYNDROME” here is a TASK track on the course that was just added a couple of days ago, 天界ちほー9 (I’ve seen 天界ちほー translated as “Heaven Area” but I’m not sure if this is official).
This song is just horita_pso2_battle_theme.mp3 but with the rhythm game music dial turned up a bit in the piano overload and faster movement between sections, and I find that really funny.
