Interruping my Koichi Kyuma posting for a sec, because it’s time to once again be an RSS aggregator for Lemm’s YouTube channel
This is an interesting song because it’s the first piece by Lemm I’m aware of to feature live instrument performances: piano by Tsynphonia and strings by Akanasu, Yuu98, and Nehai_11. “Revris” was written for this year’s VocaDuo, an annual web project where Vocaloid producers team up with singers and produce a new song under that year’s hashtag; there’s no grading or winners, it’s just done for love of the game. If you’re a big nerd, you may have noticed that the artist credited in the video’s title is not a real singer, but rather SynthV voice Chifuyu Hanakuma; the team’s actual entry features vocalist Queue, but it’s pretty common for the producer to make a synth version too, and I happen to prefer Hanakuma’s voice to Queue’s in this song.
Lemm’s songs have included strings in the past, but usually as a fairly uniform string section, so hearing some differentiation in the strings with lead players and performance articulations is a nice textural difference from his past songs. It also fits right into his music due to how maximalist it is already (what’s another complication in there?) and how often he throws in random waltzy bits. Naturally, there’s more than one random waltzy bit in this song, because he can’t resist, along with electronic chaos and a few good chords, which he also can’t resist. It’s a pretty Lemm song, so it’s fun.
