Oasis in 2op – “Wave Injection” (2023)

Listening: Bandcamp

Info

Oh baby it’s time for some Tadahiro Nitta chippèd tunes. Two of them, to be precise! A small release to coincide with the release of FutureDisk 47, a disk magazine for the MSX2. The title track was written as background music for some part of the launcher, while the other track is a nice bonus for us all.

Both tracks are native MSX chiptunes written with TriloTracker, no matter how much they may sound otherwise, though apparently they were recorded with some custom MSX sound hardware called the MSX SOUND ENHANCER, and I don’t know about you but I’m always down for some enhancement. The production here is perhaps not quite as mindbending as some of his other releases, by virtue of being hardware authentic, but they’re still some quite nice chiptune dance tunes.

Recommended tracks:

  • Wave Injection” has a lot of demoscene energy to it, I could definitely see this being part of a prod (which it kind of is!)

  • Backflow Wave” is a self-described “kinda strange” track with weird, Streets of Rage 3-esque techno riffs, an unnecessarily funky bassline, and just, like, an awful lot of orchestra hits

(can I just include the entire album as recommended tracks like this? sure, why not)
