Info

So this is just a random li’l free shump for Windows with that entry-level game engine vibe of using a bunch of random graphical assets with absolutely no artistic cohesion whatsoever. At 0:40 in the trailer video linked above, the enemies appear to be the logo of one of the dev’s previous games, PAROXE+VIOUS, which is extremely funny. This game has two soundtracks: the main music was composed by Tadahiro Nitta, and there’s an “another BGM mode” composed by the developer penpe.net that’s accessible if you start the game with a special input combination. Both composers released their music in separate Bandcamp albums.

Nitta’s tracks are some weird MSX dance tunes, and since this is a Windows game he could get wilder with the music without having to worry about things like “the game loop needs time to execute too.” The main stage BGM is the song “Backflow Wave,” an original piece he wrote for an earlier release; I wonder if penpe.net heard it and was like “hey man this rules, you wanna make it into a soundtrack.”

penpe.net’s tracks are also chiptunes, but of a decidedly more metal variety with chuggin’ FM rhythm geetarz, similar in style to like MUSHA or something. Though I don’t think it’s quite as good as that, and I’m not a particularly big fan of that to begin with. Also included on the album are two PSG arrangements which sound more like Master System or Game Gear music, one unused track, and then a bonus arrangement of “Backflow Wave” called “Theme of today’s club activity” (the album page contains English text suggesting that “Backflow Wave” was actually arranged from this, but the Japanese text on the track’s page says that it was created from “Backflow Wave,” so it’s just a bad translation). Tracks 10-19 on the album are from two different games.
