Time for this thing again! The final pack of 71 songs was released for voting at around the same time that I took a bit of a music break for ear reasons, so I’m only now finally getting around to listening to the entries. They’re good! They’re always good. I don’t really have a whole lot to say about this, especially having said a couple of things about SPC last time. They even used the same bouba/kiki sample organization this time! It’s just a nice collection of plunderphonicsy tunes in a variety of styles: jazz, IDM, prog, ambient, clown-ass nonsense, etc.
For this contest I ended up submitting a sample from a game I happened to replay a few months beforehand: Museum Madness. Specifically, I recorded the puzzle complete jingle as rendered in DOSBox. It’s very recognizably used in a few different tracks, see if you can find them!
Recommended tracks:
I think so my SPC posts don’t get samey because I include tracks by the same four people every time, I’ll intentionally skip people whose work I posted from the previous contest.
-
“Activities in a Zany Toneland” (doctorn0gloff) is some delightfully cartoony SNES light music
-
“Confront The Core” (ColonelFatso) is some nice organy prog, and I really like the overdriven sound of the chords that come in at 0:54
-
“doodack beta” (blower) is honestly just showing off, lush dancefloor material
-
“hip hop beat (loopable, hyper-detailed, dslr, 4k uhd, volumetric lighting, trending on artstation)” (anosa) is also just showing off, in a sample editing way
-
“Stasis” (clairebun) is some pretty ambience, very reminiscent in sound design to the Phendrana themes from Metroid Prime
-
“Tense Wyrm” (Cryptovolans) is tense and wyrmy, sounds like shmup music
